Rain, rain don't go away...I'm inviting you to stay.

Those are the lyrics of my dear friend, Kimberliana, but they express our sentiments too!  Finally, after months of intense drought, the rain fell....and it fell good!  Check out Judy's pictures on Lemuel's blog lemuelministries.blogspot.com.  We thank God for this gift!  He is the only one who can make it rain.

Of course, tropical rain is not exactly the same as rain in Pennsylvania, for example.  First of all, the raindrops themselves are gigantic.  Secondly, they usually fall in torrents.  It takes about 5 seconds to get soaked through.  Here is a video I captured (at the risk of my poor camera) of the water that rushed through Manis's mother's yard and past my garden into the water hole across from my house.

I've never seen it this full!

I wish that I also had been able to capture some pictures of the water that descended from the mountains through the (usually) dry river bed.  Even people who have lived here all their lives have rarely seen the water rush and boil like that!  People were temporarily stranded on either side of it.

What do YOU mean when you say, "We're having chicken."?

Well one thing I mean is "sweet revenge."  That's one or two less chickens to go scratching and eating away in my garden.

Of course, the chickens here about as free range as you can get, but they aren't exactly plump....killing two of them is good for a little bone nibbling.  And the preferred form of cooking them seems to be frying till there is even less left than what you started with.

Ani, Josiane, and I were hanging out in the kitchen with Mme Tiferne while she prepared the chickens the other day :

Here he is in all his glory.
(Okay, okay, so I cheated.  This particular cock is still strutting his stuff in the yard, but I needed a “Before” picture and the others were already dead.   I have given this bird the moniker “Old Eliezer Reincarnated,” since he closely resembles an old, intimidating, one-eyed nemesis of mine whom I affectionately reffered to as Old Eliezer….O.E. has since *ahem* moved on to better scratching grounds.)

If you are subject to delicate sensibilities, just be grateful I didn’t get a shot of what was in the other pot.

Ani and I…it’s rather difficult to get a serious picture with her.

See.
